The title of the show is 'the imaginary life and mysterious death of Edgar Allen Poe', which kind of tells you to begin with that it wasn't going to be a completely factual representation of his life. And I thought that the direction and songs were repetitive for a reason. They repeated motifs (the same way something like Les Mis does) to great effect, I thought. This show reveals inaccurate information about Poe's life again and again. They weave fiction into his story as if it were real and create more illusion out of the author's life than was necessary. He led a very complex and difficult life, and all they had to do was tell THAT story. The actors were brilliant; the direction and songs were repetitive.
